Welcome to yearbook class and our daily blog! There’s lots of news to share. Over the summer we laid the groundwork for an amazing book. We’ll begin today with a brief overview of the theme, then move on to staff job assignments, and how we will organize ourselves to stay on top of production.
With a smaller staff, it will be even more important for us to stay organized. Communication will be the key. Today we will explore the use of some Web 2.0 tools that have the potential to help keep us connected – blogs, wikis, rss aggregators (really simple syndication – wow!), and social networking sites.
It is important for you to keep an open mind about these new technologies. Just for fun here are two clips for you to view. The first one, Book Helpdesk, illustrates our “keep an open mind” philosophy! The second clip (a parody) The Devil Wears Prada demonstrates the following quotation and the importance of at least being aware of emerging technologies. “A generation from now there will only be two skills our students will need to to have mastered in order to have a successful professional life. They are: 1) expert decision making (what does your skilled auto mechanic do when all the diagnostics say that your car is working but it isn’t), and 2) complex communication skills–the ability to make meaning out of complexity.” Chris Dede at the “online learning institute”
