A big welcome to our “not new to yearbook, but new to this year” yearbookers – the “D-Day” crew: McLain & Nicole AND the “E-Day” crew: Julia & Blaine. We’re oh-so glad to have you join our force.

Morgan posted an updated ladder on Saturday. Be sure to check in with the ladder to make sure that you are working on the correct page numbers.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS – our next yearbook workday is Saturday, January 26th from 12:00-3:00.

Greetings – sorry to leave you in the lurch today. I’m under the weather, but available at home if you have questions. Ask Kelsey for our home number. Feel free to call from the lab phone if you get stuck.

Check your wikispace for individual instructions. BE SURE TO RESPOND WHEN YOU LEAVE CLASS so that I know what you accomplished today. See you Monday!

We’ve got a good start on the ads, but we are going to need to set-up a workday in order to get them completed on time. Let’s brainstorm ideas today!

Cover Art is submitted! Thanks to everyone who turned in artwork. Could be a few months before we see what the artist puts together for us. Very exciting.

Wednesday is E this week. So, we will meet on Monday and Thursday. Ad materials are due by 10/31. We will begin setting deadlines for these layouts as soon as the materials start arriving.

We spent the first quarter focusing on infrastructure. Even though we don’t have a lot of pages to show for our work, we do have a lot to point to.

Our cover and endsheets are essentially designed and ready to send to the plant. Our ladder is complete and ready for assignments. This is huge and it looks great. Sports photos (team and action) have been taken in every fall sport, with the exception of golf. The folio should be ready to insert on the student life page today. Baby pics are 95% collected, senior sayings have been distributed, senior superlative nominations have been collected and final ballots were distributed via email over the weekend. Ad soliciations are finalized and confirmation letters went out last week. Ad materials are due by the end of October.

Now it is time for assigning page deadlines. When we return from Fall Break we will review how grading will work for the 2nd quarter. Everyone have some fun, rest-up, and be safe over break!

Don’t forget to remind EVERYBODY that tomorrow is Photo Make-up Day! The weather is going to be cool and dry so it should be a “good hair day” – no excuse for not having your photo taken. The photographer will be in the library lobby from 7:55-3:00pm with a break for lunch from 12:15-12:50. We need a volunteer to put posters up around the building AND a volunteer to make an announcement at assembly. Also, if you are available during your free period to help the photographer let me know. You can do your homework at the same time.

LAST CALL for items for the cover. Mary Harris is joining us for class today to help finalize our cover design. We are trying to find a tiger-striped ribbon to use as a book mark, but so far we haven’t had any luck. If anyone has any ideas, please speak up!

IMPORTANT – According to recent activity only a couple of you are checking your wiki spaces. This is a requirement and I can tell from the history who is and who isn’t checking in. You are not excused from class today until you let me know what you accomplished in class today.

This is our last three day week for awhile. Our goals for the week are:

1. Submit items for the cover to the plant

2. Submit endsheet

3. Send out ad confirmation letters to parents

4. Finalize student life layouts.

5. Make sure EVERYONE knows that Thursday is photo make-up day!

Check-out the incredible resource for our zip code called ZipSkinny under Linky Dinks. It gives all the demographics from our zipcode taken from the US Census Reports. Talking about Living on the Edge – all the facts and figures are in one place! You should include information from this list of demographics in your stories as often as possible. In fact, for the summer layout – we should find out how many days we went without rain, as well as the temperature stats. Anybody know where we can find that information?

A second really cool resource is The Daily Earth (see Linky Dinks). This link gives you access to any newspaper in the world. Perhaps not so much for yearbook, but definitely good to know about when you are doing research. I mean IT doesn’t all have to be about yearbook : )

Two things to celebrate today!

First, we passed the 300 mark in hits for our blog – 310 to be exact. Obviously others are checking in to see what we are up to!

Second, the CS3 plug-ins arrived. Today we will be installing these plug-ins on all computers, so you will have to be flexible and ready to move if necessary.

Also, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to Brooke – she’s been 18 almost one whole week!

I will not be in class today. Sunny is out as well. Continue where you left off on Thursday. The plug-ins have not arrived.  We have to wait to assign deadlines until they arrive and we make sure they are working.  There is a survey on my desk that I would like for you guys to fill out. Please send one representative down to pick it up and return it to my desk.  Siffat – Please call me at 828-4802. You may use the phone in the HS Lab.

See you Thursday!

We had a productive visit with Mary yesterday. She is back on the schedule for our next D-Wednesday to confirm our cover questions and to make sure that the CS3 plug-ins (which we should have by next week) are working properly.

At the end of class today, we should have a staff meeting. Let’s plan to stop work at 11:20 and spend about 15 minutes going over what we’ve accomplished so far and what we need to accomplish during the coming month.
